They all seem busy. That stop is VERY busy, so it generates a lot of pedestrian flow from all directions. I think SBUX plan is to basically force anyone going to/from that station to have to walk past one of their stores.
I miss Tower the most as a die hard music fan. They had everything. it was like if you could not find it there, It many not even exist. Manhattan mall I agree is very mediocre.
I remember some of the small music shops in the Village, They are all gone too I think.
I used to shop at Tower Records a lot and a good chance to meet others that are into your music. A girl at the checkout would look at my CDs and say "that's a really good CD, you should check out this club this Thursday night and I can get you in for free if you tell them my name sent you."
I used to love cd shopping, especially for obscure stuff. Bleecker Bobs, Kim's Underground, and Tower record outlet (I was too cheap to go to regular Tower) were regular go to places.
But now that everything can be easily found on the internet, even the most obscure music, I do not miss CD shopping one bit. Was fun in the 90s but I have other things in life to do than go through racks of cds.
Tower was good but NOBODY ever beat Sam Goody.
I assembled a collection of more than 1000 vinyl classical LP's at a cost of ranging from $.57 to $.99. The chain went for years alternating labels at the cheapest prices. I would drive into New York in high school picking up a dozen albums a trip.
Oh yeah...and a case of hooch to enjoy with my PA buddies. (Booze was very easy in Manhattan.)
Album selection? Well maybe 100,000?
The two main outtlets in midtown were NIRVANA for music lovers.
Manhattan Mall has always sucked. That has always kind of been the charm of that place. That it was a mistake.
I disagree. I thought Manhattan Mall was the bomb diggity as a kid and pre-teen, back when it occupied all seven floors of the building. It's never been the same ever since they converted everything north of the 2nd floor into office space.

I miss Tower the most as well. Especially the one on the Upper West Side. I would be in there for hours. lol...

It wasn't that bad back in the early 90's. I vaguely remember when Macy's (not 100% sure) was still in the building and the food court was on the top floor.
