you cannot get the points removed from your record as far as what the insurer or those who check your record see by taking the class.
the schools only reduce it behind the scenes as far as suspension goes on the dmv side..
you can however pick up an extra discount on the liability portion of your insurance if you take the class but it may be peeing in the ocean if they raise you on 31 over.
maybe the insurer will see it and maybe they won't. so far my insurer has not done anything or even saw the fact 2-1/2 years ago i got a ticket for 25 over.
i would wait and see before i did anything that would put my policy on the radar like even take that class.
a clean license does not help in nyc, there is no judge to see who has leeway to reduce a thing.
you go to the dmv office and see an administrator who can only say 100% guilty or 100% not guilty based on just the facts.

30 MPH over the speed limit is pretty excessive. What reason do you have for it? If no good reason then you probably speed all the time & just lucky you never got caught. Maybe you should consider taking this ticket as an opportunity to re-think your driving habits & slow down a bit before something more serious happens.
We all have to pay for our mistakes. All of our actions have consequences. If you knew that maybe you would have not been speeding in the first place. Your rates should go up as the ins. co. will consider you a risk now. Be careful in the future as if this is the way you drive you will be lucky if you get to keep your license or even be able to get good rates for insurance.

Ok well you cant plea it down. You got written by HWY 2. They almost never lose a speeding case. You can get a lawyer but I doubt you will win. You are going 31 over the limit plus you have a HWY cop testifying against you then you are pretty much dead meat. HWY cops know the testimony on a speeding case so well that I have watched them close their eyes and twiddle their thumbs as they recite it. I have seen lawyers get destroyed by HWY cops. Its not pretty lol. A regular pct cop you have a shot at. However since IAB came down to traffic court because of guys throwing tickets the days of cops not remembering have ended. Now its the old wives tale that maybe the cop wont show up. That is possible however the court reschedules you and you have to come back. They also know the cops days off and vacation schedule. The one way I know you can win is if the cop retires lol! So pretty much you will be found guilty. Maybe the administrative judge does something with the fine. They always tell you to take a defensive driving class to get rid of the points.
there is no such thing in the city limits as plea it down. the administrators have no such latitude.
they are not judges, it is not a court but a hearing in the dmv and there is no prosecutor like outside the city. they can only go 100% guilty or 100% not guilty with nothing in between.
you have 8 points for the 31 mph over the speed limit, only 3 points away from a suspension
you can still take a class to reduce up to 4 points so you can bring it down to 4. then you cannot take the class again for point reduction until after 18 mos
insurance companies don't look at points. points are only a DMV index to determine how close to a suspension you are
some insurance companies forgive the first offense
if you are carrying 8 points by the time you renew your registration (18 mos from the ticket issued) you will have to pay a driver assessment surcharge for each point over 6. something like $100 plus $25 per point over the 6. surcharges start at 6 points

Yes they hit you pretty hard. Make sure you take care of that ticket. Ignore it or failing to pay fine and your license will be suspended. You get a suspended license you are a collar in NYC! Again going against a HWY cop is pretty futile.
