I will be a graduate in the field of architecture, and have interned in NYC and love it. The question is, what are good, affordable (i know thats an oxymoron), young crowd, etc....areas that I should look into in New York City (and/or Metro).
Thanks!!!!!

It depends on what your salary will be. If you make enough, live in a small studio, or get roommates, you may be able to do Manhattan. It depends on your situation...

Astoria Queens is nice. It is where I live. It's 10 minutes to midtown Manhattan. It's been getting more expensive here over the years. HOWEVER, there are a lot of pre-war buildings, which are rentstablized. I have a 2 bedroom apartment with a dinning room for $1500, which is pretty cheap for NY. It is so convient here and you don't need a car.

Check out Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights, and Dumbo in Brooklyn. As for Queens, go with Sunnyside, Astoria, or Long Island City. In Manhattan, check out pretty much any neighborhood--if cost is a factor, northern Manhattan is cheaper on the whole. Also, you may find some deals on the upper east side (contrary to popular belief), and the lower east side/east village.

What do you consider affordable (price range wise)? That will determine where you can live.

If you are looking for something that cheap..come to Mott Haven! It is VERY close to the city..and it is really gritty and old school. Alot happening over here....of course..you must be comfortable around colored folks....
