What De Blasio represents is the Union mentality ... no accountability
I don't know any union that defends tardiness. At places I worked, you would be docked pay, perhaps even sent home, depending on how late you were. One docked 1/10th of an hour, if you were a second late! Another sent you home without pay, once the trucks rolled.

Most unions with strict work rules do this to protection both workers & employers. Someone who thinks he knows it all, and does work he is untrained for or unqualified to do, can either hurt himself or damage production, and incur the wrath of the employer.

I don't want to go trashing all unions because they are not all bad but the ones I've dealt with are just frustrating. I came from the private sector to the public and it was an eye opening experience. I never knew you could tell someone "no" or "I'll get to it when I can". Those words would have gotten you fired or sent home in my previous job.
I know of a few of unions where tardiness, poor work ethic and plain old "its not my job" mentality was somewhat accepted. Specifically mine. I am part of a union and I see this nonsense happen every day. I specifically see this happen a lot with the carpenters. I have seen them come in to do a simple job such as replacing a few floor tiles and make it an entire day project. I've caught them hanging out in vacant offices or cubicles just waiting for their shift to end.
We had another issue where the locksmiths were supposed to come and repair a door/lock. They got to our office around 10am but realized they forgot a part so instead of going back to their warehouse to get the part they needed they hung out in a few empty cubicles for the rest of the day. They didn't get to the job for a few days because they had other tasks to get to. Any private locksmith would have taken care of the issue in a few hours.
Its gotten so bad that we had to lock any unlocked offices/computer rooms so that they won't hide out in there avoiding work. It's really pathetic.
Like I said, I'm sure not all Union workers are like this but this is what I experienced.

There's a locksmiths union?
Did anyone call to complain about this? Video it?
Can't believe how biases and unyielding so many of you are. Don't elevate this to some important level as if he were giving some presentation at the U.N. It's a minor memorial service for something that happened years ago, that he shouldn't even be wasting his time on.
You guys are more rabidly against DeBlasio after less than a year in office than I was about Bloomberg after years of putting up with him. I wonder how many of you hated him instantly and unreasonably.

Put it this way...I'd take Bloomberg over Mayor De Bozo any day.
