Lately I have noticed some African-American teenagers riding bicycles around the main loop of Central Park harassing people. They weave all over the place, veer suddenly into the jogging lane, catcall the female joggers, and make loud, rude remarks. Yesterday, a teen rode up right behind me and screamed in my ear. He and his 2 friends found that funny. They are not targeting a particular race, as I saw som of them harassing a couple African American joggers (who had the courage to shout back at them.)
I have also noticed a lot of extra police cruisers patrolling the main loop in the last few weeks, perhaps due to this behavior and the spate of robberies. This is the first time that I have felt slightly uncomfortable in Central Park in years.
Since Mr deblasio took office, I have been avoiding the central park fearing that it will sooner or later become the playground of criminals or misbehavior. and I am glad that I made the correct decision.
As soon as the city eases up on law enforcement and stops cracking down on quality-of-life crimes, the bad guys come out of the woodwork. Word on the street appears to be that you can get away with more now. I hope that this trend does not continue. Still nothing compared to the early 1990's but a little disturbing.
The Guardian Angles..😇..need to recruit, a new generation with younger and physically fit persons.
Then these street thugs will take the Guardian Angles more seriously..😠.. Like back in the days!!

Amen. I was in college in NYC during their heyday. I recall a subway ride where they caught a thug who had mugged someone (I heard the victim call it out) , and judging by the yelling a minute later, the Angels were engaging in what Silwa humorously , in an interview, described as "modern behavior modification techniques".
NYC just has to relax it's gun laws in concert with most of the rest of the country. When regular law abiding citizens can legally carry concealed handguns, the criminal class is going to have to be much more circumspect about who they attack.
While likely appropriate, nowadays this would likely be videoed, and while the perp would get locked up, so would the GAs who tuned him up.

I go to central park several times a week. I haven't seen teenagers riding bicycles around the main loop of Central Park harassing people. However I have seen lots of police cruisers riding around the loop as well as guys from Hells Angels walking around the last few weeks. It did make me wonder if more crimes are taking place in central park.
