You know what...at this point, I hope they shut this crap down. Don't see how any people can "enjoy" the festivities while fearing for their lives.

Beats me how this doesn't get cancelled. They obviously don't know how to act civilized.

This thread is racist. J'Ourvert is and always will be a peaceful expression of blackness where anyone can bring their little children for fun, dancing, and joyousness.

It doesn't even matter. The parade won't be on Eastern Parkway any more when Crown Heights gets completely gentrified.

I agree.
How many years will there have to be bloodshed for it to finally be cancelled?

I like the parade (the actual parade parade that happens today). J'Ouvert is where the violence occurs and is related to, but is not the West Indian Day Parade. Even with that, I think it's better to tackle trying to have J'Ouvert but to take more steps to prevent it from being violent. I think it's either cancel J'Ouvert, but have the regular parade or try more methods to prevent violence during J'Ouvert.

Just curious: why does there tend to be more violence during J'Ouvert than during the parade itself?

Because J'Ouvert is during the nighttime.
