He expects the Port Authority to pay for it. Why the eff would the Port Authority of NY&NJ be responsible for a subway line from Manhattan to Brooklyn. What loophole do they think they can exploit?
The port authority helped fund the west side extension for the 7 train of was involved in the project from you had I remember. Port authority and mta works closely together.

Not fund, but I remember watching a video with port authority engineers helping with the construction of the West end extension. If I find the video I will pull it up and post it.
This guy wants to use Port Authority money to build a subway line to Red Hook to "unlock" it's potential but Staten Island has needed a subway and Northshore light rail line for decades and we get nothing. Bunch of BS. Cuomo will fast track this study and groundbreaking while Staten Island studies for a Northshore light rail go on forever.
As for Staten Island. It would be best for port authority to build a path train that connects the with Jersey City.

The whole PATH needs to be extended, north to North Bergen, west to Irvington and East Orange, and south to Jersey City, Bayonne, and Staten Island. Maybe it could go to Edison too.

Staten Islanders, under Dinkins, wanted to secede! Now, it blames the current mayor for not looking out for them regarding mass transit.....!
Because they wouldn't let us.
All of the Staten Island hate, yet they won't let us leave. That logic doesn't make sense. You can't have it both ways.
If you hate us, then let us leave. Don't intervene to force us to stay (which the city did) when we voted for secession, TWICE. Of course we know why: a borough that generates strong tax revenue, takes little from city coffers, and can be ignored, is a win/win for the rest of NYC which is welfare central.

If Staten Island leave
NYC population would drop from 8.5 million to 8 million, total area drop from 468 to to 366, land area drop from 302.5 to 244. NYC would be around Chicago size but slightly larger

The governor of NJ would have to agree to that as well. Though Christie has used Port Authority funds for highway maintenance in NJ. Of course Port Authority resources are used to rebuild both JFK and LGA, and are going to build a new bus terminal.
So if he can also use the Port Authority to pay for new subway lines, great.
Upon crossing into Red Hook, there is no additional future extension to prep for as the lines are well-covered past Red Hook in the adjacent neighborhoods. It also can’t serve as a reliever route to connect any of the existing subways there in case of construction or other issues, because it’s an IRT line with different dimensions to the IND and BMT trains that are anywhere near there. It just has so little utility compared to a large number of other potential extensions.
Well that wouldn't be the purpose, the entire purpose of this is to link Red Hook to the rest of the city - that's it. It has to be evaluated on the benefits of that alone if it makes sense or not
