Lol. Typical Staten Islander. Always wanting more than they merit. Staten Island compromises less than 5% of the city population. By population, you deserve 2 seats on the council. No more, no less. Unfortunately, our political system tends to over reward less dense areas, so stop complaining about your over representation on the city council.
Staten Island was prevented from seceding because it would set precedent for any part of city to secede. Years back, I already proved on this board that SI contributes little to the city coffers (majority of city money comes property taxes, of which SI pays little since its comprised mostly of low value class 1 properties.) Plus, the large subsidies and city services SI (including water services) receives is more than SI pays in any taxes. I won’t rehash the details. Precedent is the reason secession wasn’t allowed. End of story.
