Just found out I can get a deeply discounted membership to The Rock (gym on 31st Street near Ditmars) through my health insurance. Is anyone a current/former member here, and can provide some insight?

Right now I'm a member at another local (read: non-chain) gym further up Ditmars closer to my apartment, but I pay about $40 more (and frankly, never go!) Saving money is always good, and though I'd have to bring my gym stuff to work so I could go when I get off the train on the way home, my gym bag wouldn't need toiletries, towels, etc since I would just be going home afterward.

All of the reviews on Yelp seem to revolve around their horrendous billing, but I believe (will call to confirm details tomorrow) that I would be billed directly through this program.

Basically, I need cardio machines, weights (squat rack - NOT a Smith machine and barbells/plates). Classes are nice, and they seem to have a decent amount that align with my work schedule.

I also think I'd go more.

Thoughts?
