A lot of racist white Americans have a 1500s concept of Europe. Many people immigrant to European countries, and yes they get citizenship eventually. Some even quicker.
I've been to 4 different countries in Europe and they were all super white compared to the US.
It has not lead to communism anywhere in Western Europe.
Western Europe doesn’t have free healthcare or debt cancellation. Everyone pays higher taxes - but even still - name me one socialist European country. Also, haven’t you noticed Brexit? One of the reasons why they want to separate from the EU is because they are tired of the regulatory nature of the EU as imposing on personal market freedoms. With this being said, if government intervention on everything economic is so fantastic, why do people protest or want to leave when it happens?
Why did you switch from talking about immigration to skin color?
The point was that it's a homogenous society compared to the US. A large chunk of the "foreigners" in Sweden are also from highly developed Western/Central European countries.
Can you guys just listen for once and let the actual people who have experience living in Europe--i.e. me and NYWriterDude--speak on this? Pretty please?
I just got back from the Netherlands on September 20th, actually. While I was there my boyfriend and I were walking and I suddenly doubled over in pain. Eventually, I asked him to call an ambulance. I was brought to a new, clean hospital with a staff that spoke flawless (and I mean flawless) English. Not once was I asked about my insurance or how I would pay. Instead, I was seen immediately and helped promptly. I was given pain medication, a sonogram, a scan, and was treated with dignity and respect. They discovered I had a kidney stone, I got two prescriptions and was sent on my way. I never received a bill.
Years ago, my mom was visiting me in Italy as I was living there at the time. On the plane coming to me, she tripped and broke her wrist. We immediately went to the hospital where they took x-rays and she was given prompt medical attention. She was given pain medication, her wrist set, and she enjoyed the rest of her vacation. She never received a bill.
WHY WOULDN'T AMERICANS WANT THIS?!?! What is wrong with us?

I have plenty of friends who lived in Europe - Montenegro, Spain, Poland (when it was communist) Albania, Germany and France. None of them want to go back to their countries. In fact, a few are here illegally on expired visas or have resorted to marriage just to get US citizenship.
Everyone has their own reasons for living in or leaving a particular place. That's fine.
But what I'm talking about, specifically, is healthcare. Why would any single American *want* to leave the hospital with the prospect of going into medical debt or worse being forced to declare bankruptcy? Why are we so accepting of this broken system?

Arabic is the number two language in Sweden -- not Finnish, not Polish, not Danish, not French, etc.
