Use the MTA Service Bus that services most areas of town on a rotating basis. I transferred my balance from an old expired card to a new one lickety split. (twice a month at 86th and Lex.) The bus can do everything that the downtown office can do without the schlepp.
There are a couple station booths that can get the job done, but none were as near me as the MTA service bus that I could walk to.
Thanks KK, but my card was over a year old, so I couldn't do that. I mailed it in, so no schlepping necessary .

The switchover will confer NO advantages to me.
I had this NEW technology with PATH a decade ago. Upside was I needed only tap my WALLET and get the card read. Small upside because I worried about the magnetic field screwing with any other cards ion my wallet, a big downside..

Right now I'm okay with my phone, dunno if that will change in dead of winter with snow and mittens. Probably get a monthly card eventually.
