Recently went to Rolo's just days before a NYT review and subsequent accolades rolled in. It was very good, but I'm guessing it'll be a bit of a wait now. This is nicer / pricier.
While in Kathmandu has pretty good Nepali food. I'm not Nepali, but I really like dumplings and their momos are enjoyable. It's interesting to contrast this with the more often Tibetan momos up in Jackson Heights.
Gottscheer Hall is a long-time German beer hall there which is more of a neighborhood locals spot and they're friendly and the food's pretty good, but it's really more kind of just being an interesting place than anything.
There's a chimi place I went to a while back, but I don't remember if it's actually the one I'm seeing on Google Maps called Listo El Chimi which is roughly in the right location, so I'm pretty sure that's it.
There's a little pedestrianized area near the Myrtle-Wyckoff section and I remember getting food from a taco cart around there and a momo cart, and both as I remember were good.
There are tons of newer places which I haven't gone to and I'm sure some of them are great. Rolo's is the only new, fancier place I've been to very recently since I'm usually there to go to a show or other general nightlife-y thing rather than a sitdown meal. From what I've heard, quite a few people who work in fine dining or just generally more acclaimed restaurants live there and in recent year struck out on their own with restaurants in that area which I assume has to do with proximity to Bushwick and Williamsburg to be able to draw those crowds while still being much cheaper than either.
This is a serious question. What's the obsession with food among the transplant/ do nothing classes? The difference between an average restaurant and a "great" restaurant in NYC isn't substantial. I'd argue the quality of NYC restaurants is moreso based on value propositions.
The costs among restaurants in NYC for the same exact food varies greatly.

Yea, no prob. I think you can probably couple this with an event at one of the bars like Bar Freda or an event at Knockdown Center or UnionDoc. If you're more of a daytime person, there's the Vander Ende–Onderdonk House you can visit.

Looks like Bar Freda has live music which I’ve been really into lately. Will most likely be checking that one out
Airborne was right about all the transplants on this board. Crypto Transplants who like to tell us about how great NYC is while applying for affordable housing lol. Can't even make this up.
