The Indian and Vietnamese restaurant threads made me think of this topic.

The best thing about NYC's food scene, imo, is there are very rare (for the US) ethnic restaurants here that are harder to find in other cities (Egyptian, Bulgarian, etc).

One that comes to mind for me is Merguez & Frites in Astoria. It is an Algerian/North African restaurant.

What are some less common ethnic restaurants (so not Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, French, Spanish, Ethiopian, or Mediterranean) in NYC do you like?

Sami's Kabab House - Afghan - in Astoria. Good ambiance too. And the family has built an empire, their adult kids opened up Little Flower Cafe on the same block which is a sort of hipster/contemporary Afghan cafe with clean lines and decor and delicious pastries like the cardamom croissant.

Jamaican is pretty common.

Dominican is mostly common in NYC and maybe a few other places in the NE (thinking probably NJ). I think it qualifies as somewhat uncommon.
