Is new york safe? I've watched Law & Order and it looks terrifying. But is new york really like that? From the way it looks if i lived there i would be afriaid to go outside and i would proboly have to be a shut in and order my grocheries off the computer and have bars on the windows.

Ordering groceries online? Bars on your window! Forgive me because I must laugh. Seriously if you were to base your impressions of New York on Law and Order you have issues....

This is not Detroit, or Atlanta for that matter. NYC is relatively safe although there are bad neighborhoods. Its one of those cities where people actually want to live in the city. People walk the streets at night, I have not seen one store with bars on it, or where people order through a glass microphone and are served by employees behind bullet proof glass.

And I mean no disrespect but if you come to NYC with that attitude you will look like a fool.

Are you serious, or just trying to bait people? Do you really form your impressions of a city from a crime drama on television?

New York is one of the safest cities in the US. Do your research.

When my girlfriend and I were visiting the Grand Canyon, we met this guy named Andy, who used to be a Wyoming State Trooper. When we told him we were from New York, he was shocked. He had the impression that we spend all our time around here dodging bullets and elbowing aside crack dealers.

As it turned out, his whole idea of New York came from the TV show Hill Street Blues.

I would hope this is a joke as I can't imagine any adult forming their opinion on a place based on what they see on TV.

To be quite honest cottonwood your comments are insulting. More so because you have no solid facts to support this.

I have told you this once before and will say it again. Relative to other cities, and for a place of its size, NYC is a VERY SAFE city. This stereotype really no longer applies, although crime does exist. But like I said most crime (except for small burglaries) are not random. When I walk down the streets of NYC I am not worried about the crime. I know it is a safe city.

I welcome you to New York if you so choose to come down here. But I strongly suggest that you DROP the attitude.
