Saying Tri-state doesn't work because if you live in south jersey, the Tri-state term comes from Phila which means Delaware/PA/NJ. And if u live in North Jersey the tri-state is NJ/NY/Conn.

The Northeast people know. Really there aren't to many differences between Maryland and Mass. The Bos-Wash term needs revived.

Somerset county NJ is a county within the New York Metropolitan area. We aren't straddled in-between the New York and Philadelphia metros. We are part of the urban conglomeration wich has New York city at it's core. Without Northern and Central New Jersey you can ax about 7 million people off of New Yorks population/power/economic strength measure. New York would then be SECOND to Los Angeles.

So yes, I believe we need a unifying label. LA can just say LA because it's metro doesn't straddle multiple states. Whether Orange county likes it or not.

I personally like; The Empire. It's got bite.

I have a feeling people in Hope, NJ and Litchfield, CT wouldn't want to say the are from; "The Empire" though. Oh, well. Not everyone's gotta like it.

Actually, "we" don't need a better name for anything. This is someone else's problem, certainly not anyone here in New York City.

Because "Downstate New York, Half of New Jersey, and one County in Connecticut" is too long?

As a new yorker, the concept of a tri-state completely goes over my head. So i could careless really. But tri-state is unifying enough

People in Connecticut realize that Fairfield County is more or less part of New York anyhow so why complain?

They're talking about metro areas. If you lop off the NJ portion, metro NYC would be second in total population to metro L.A.

Way back in 1983, when Z-100 first went on the air, they called the region this. I have a "t-shirt" I won from them (they called it a "Z-shirt") that says for the slogan "Rockin' the Empire......"

I don't think Tri-State is fitting when there's 4 states in the Metro, Quad-State area doesn't sound nice.

How about "YorEnnsylSeyCut" lol.
