I'm going to be staying 2 nights at the days inn on queens blvd by the 33rd St-Rawson stop on the 7 line. Can anyone tell me about the area? I know theres projects to the west of it, but I'm not too worried about it. How safe is the area?
Queensbridge really isn't that close to 33rd lol. I hope you're not a soft sleeper though because the train tracks run right next to the hotel. It's a good location for easy access to the city, but there's nothing really around there. You'll see a lot of high school kids from Middle College and Aviation, and a lot of college students from LaGuardia in the area. Other than staying there to sleep, there's pretty much no reason to hang out in the area. It's decently safe, you probably wouldn't have any problems.
Safety-wise you shouldn't have any trouble at all. It's somewhat of a no-man's land, on the outskirts of the Sunnyside neighborhood, though.
As an alternative to going to Manhattan for dinner, I'd suggest that you take the 7 train to Sunnyside (40th or 46th st), or even further, to Woodside, Jackson Heights, or Flushing, and check out the interesting and exotic dining options Queens has to offer.
