Hubby and I heard a TOTAL Deliverance story about a place in Upstate NY - supposedly ten minutes from Kerhonkson and near Ellenville called "Diamond City". Supposedly you go in but never come out. The guy told us about how a state trooper was found buried in his car there. Said it was WAY WAY worse than Ellenville. Now, who knows if this is true - I tried Googling it a number of ways but nothing comes up.

Anyone know any local legend? Is there truth to this?

I haven't heard of this place and I live in Ulster County a bit north of Kerhonkson. Where did you get this story? Sullivan County starts a bit west of Ellenville and the major towns there are a bit depressed and seedy as the place has never recovered from the collapse of the old resort hotels (Concord, Browns, Grossingers etc). Kind of a rural version of Atlantic City right before the casinos came in. But I never heard any "Deliverance" type stories from there.

Actually, you might be thinking of Oniontown which is near DoverPlains in Dutchess County, on the other side of the Hudson River. Google "Oniontown" for more information.

No, diamond city is pretty much 100% true as far as I'm concerned. It's like ten minutes from my house and you drive up this old dirt road and there are road signs that are vandalized with warnings to "keep out" and if you drive far enough there is a man sitting in the middle of the road in a tattered old recliner thing with a gun, we didn't get very close and turned around and drove as fast as we could away because the idea of it is honestly just terrifying. My friends and I decided to take that turn a couple days ago just to check out the urban legend and idk man but it's scary as ****

Ellenville is not that bad not everyone has 1 tooth or a trailer! Yeah, Diamond City is for real some how my fathers side was related to someone there. If your not related don't continue up that road, I never did and supposedly my family had permission. I heard of an IRS agent that went in and never came out. Deliverance sums it up, inbreeding, is a way of life up there. Feel bad for people in Ellenville. An old paper mill used to dump dye in the river and PCB's leeched into the water table causing many cancer cases. I remember as a kid driving along the stream seeing bubble tents, men in Hazmat suits, all fenced off looked like something out of ET. Really do not poke around Diamond City.... you will not be heard from again that is a promise! People who know the place have enough sense to stay out and don't wanna become a headline in the paper. That's why you won't find anything but rumors, even on google. This is a healthy warning, it's not safe up there!

Well, if Diamond City is Ellenville, it is in the Catskills.
