For relatively higher end areas, parts of the General Brown SD(Dexter, Brownville, Glen Park, etc.), parts of the Thousand Islands(Clayton, Alex Bay, Cape Vincent, Wellesley Island, etc./Thousand Islands, Alexandria Central, Lafargeville SDs), Sackets Harbor and the South Side of Watertown(around Watertown High, Washington Park(which has a zoo) and Immaculate Heart Central(aka IHC)). Some may be in Calcium(Indian River SD) or the Carthage SD near Fort Drum as well. There are also some newer homes in the Adams/Adams Center area(South Jefferson SD) and some may go with the Henderson Harbor area(Belleville-Henderson SD) as well.

Other communities in the metro area/Jefferson County are the Lyme SD(Chaumont in between Dexter and Cape Vincent), with parts of other school districts based in other counties like Copenhagen(Lewis County), Hammond and Gouverneur(St. Lawrence County, used to have military off post housing that is now open housing) and Sandy Creek(Oswego County).

For soldiers that would go to Canada, Kingston and Ottawa were the most popular places they would go to and they aren't that far away(a little over an hour and about an hour and a half/2 hours tops from Fort Drum). Syracuse is about an hour and 15 minutes or so(actually did a daily Liverpool to Ft. Drum commute towards the end of my time there and some are known to come from Syracuse on a daily basis as well).

Lowville and Copenhagen in Lewis County also has or had off post military housing, but I believe the housing in both is now open as well.

This is an area apartment guide from Fort Drum: https://www.housing.army.mil/install..._apt_guide.pdf

In terms of amenities, they have come along especially on Route 11 near Fort Drum and also in the Arsenal Street area particularly west of I-81, where Salmon Run Mall is located. There are some newer stores and apartments in that latter area and you aren't far from Sackets Harbor going west on Route 3.

For more diverse areas for those that might come from a bigger city/area or that want that in a community, the Indian River, Carthage and Watertown City SDs are the best bet. You may see some kids in other districts like General Brown, Sackets Harbor, etc. or that go with IHC, but those three are the best bets largely due to two-thirds of Fort Drum is served by the Indian River SD and the other third is served by the Carthage SD. For Indian River towns such as Theresa(pronuonced tha-ree-sa), Philadelphia(IR HS is in the village of the same name, which also has/had off base housing), Antwerp(I believe also has/had off base housing) and LeRay(some I believe go to General Brown too)(there may be another town or two as well). For Carthage, you the villages of Carthage(town of Wilna) and West Carthage(town of Champion), village of Black River(like the 3rd video, town of Rutland) and parts of Lewis County(I believe the towns of Diana and parts of Denmark).

Here is some information about school districts in the area/county: https://data.nysed.gov/profile.php?county=22

Say you have a child into Lacrosse; Watertown, IHC, General Brown, Indian River, Carthage(historically very good), South Jefferson and I believe Thousand Islands have programs.

For Hockey, I believe there is a co-op out of IHC that includes Watertown High and maybe some of the small schools; another one I believe South Jeff is a part of with some schools like Sandy Creek/Pulaski(I believe it is called Ontario Bay), etc.; Thousand Islands/Alex Bay and may a couple of small schools have the Islanders program and there may be one or two others.

For Football, Indian River, Carthage and General Brown are historically the best programs in the area, with Watertown occasionally having some solid/good teams. Thousand Islands and South Jeff also have the sport.

Soccer is pretty big all of the schools big and small, though IHC has a special program within it.

For Basketball, on the Women's side, Indian River, South Jeff and IHC historically are the top programs. The first two have ladies playing Division 1 Basketball currently. General Brown has had some very good teams lately as well. On the Men's side, besides Sackets, Watertown and Lyme are usually good; with IR, Carthage and General Brown having good teams more than not.

Forgot to mention information for Immaculate Heart Central schools: https://www.ihcschool.org/

On a side note, this actor of 21 Jump Street fame is a graduate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Grieco

The school is known for its pretty big Italian American student population, with that community historically concentrated in the Breen Street area of the city.
