Thank you all for your information. I have learned that these towns are 20 minutes from each other. With your help I would like to know considering health care and educations as well s distance to nearest major airports which of these towns are better. In reality i would love to have great stores and community.
I think you might be looking in the wrong area if you want a nearby airport, lots of stores, restaurants, and lots of things to do. These towns are great, but you have to be the right kind of person to appreciate them.
Unless you are a college student, there isn't anything to do, especially in the winter.
Fix'd that for you.
Really... unless you have an amazing job offer from one of the colleges/universities, you'll want to avoid the area like the plague. The only jobs in the area are from the schools and universities... and none of the universities are particularly prestigious. I suppose if you'd classify yourself as an extreme-outdoorsy person... like if you'd consider going to live in the middle of Alaska and basically live off the land... you might fit in just right.
Outside of that... the nearest major airport is probably in Montreal, Quebec which is just over 2 hours away. Inside the US, the next closest major airports are in either Rochester, NY or Albany, NY at about 4 hours away each. You can get short regional flights out of Watertown, NY (1.5 hours) or Plattsburgh, NY (2 hours).

That's not necessarily true. Clarkson has a great Engineering program and the other schools have some good programs, but are prestigious.
Also, while Ogdensburg has an "International airport", the closest might actually be in Ottawa. Montreal and Syracuse are both around 2 hours away, give or take a few minutes.

Clarkson has only an ok engineering program... but doesn't even fall in the top 50 nationwide (excluding two rather obscure graduate programs... one in Environmental Engineering and one in Supply Chain Management).
Thanks. No sure what you mean that you need to be the right kind of person to appreciate what these towns have to offer.
NNY is a very secluded area. No rail, no major airports & the closest major highways are in Plattsburgh & Watertown. If you have a good job lined up & your #1 concern is finding a cheap cost of living this area could be perfect. The towns in NNY are small, the economy is very poor & most people seem to prefer to keep to themselves so if you are looking for shopping that is a step above Wal Mart, like nightlife/fine dining & are an outgoing person you will likely be very miserable in that part of the state.
