If you mean people I have worked with (and family) under 40, I would suspect about 20-30% abuse drugs, legal or illegal ones. Majority of the abusers I know or suspect seem to be alcoholic.
Overall, I find any addicts' behavior very difficult to deal with on a personal level, especially if they impact me in a negative way. I grew up around lots of alcoholics and as an adult, I do not want to deal with them willingly.
If I suspect someone at work (or anywhere) is an addict, I keep them at arms' length and if they wish to get help, best of luck to them.
There's a big difference between a user of recreational drugs, an abuser of alcohol or drugs, and an addict.
Pot is very easy to get and pretty inexpensive as compared to other drugs. I am over 40, but I know quite a few people who smoke. I have a sneaking suspicion that many more smoke weed and just dont talk about it.
Now, my DS, who will be 18 in a few months tells me that he knows a ton of peers who are regular pill poppers (Vicodin, OXY, etc). And they get the pills out of the medicine cabinets in their houses!
What % of people in your life aged 40 and under.....eg. family or close friends use recreational drug/s?
I'm a non user myself, but sadly the % is pretty high (excuse the pun) in my life.
I'm thinking 80%...... but many of them are successful people.
Good ?--I'd say about 75% smoke weed at least 'occasionally' while I have some other religious friends who are very "straight edge". Another small percentage have scripts but they take more than the recommended dose (klonopin, xanax, etc).
No one in my life uses 'hard' drugs, atleast not to my knowledge.
A low % - maybe 10? But I'm not sure. I suspect a nephew, a cousin, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm not super close to them.
A couple other family members do, but they are over 40.
Alcohol - almost everyone I know has a drink - most women I know will have a glass of wine on occasion, or a dacquri. Almost every male I know might have a beer once in awhile. No one has alcohol regularly, like nightly. It's more of a weekend treat.
Nobody, as I know. Who will tell you that he/she is using drugs?
Some people do tell you such personal problems, while with others hide it well. If you have been around the same people a while (like co-workers) you just guess based on their behavior. People with addictions can often hide their abuse well, but if you have seen it enough, then you can see tell tale signs.
