I would like to attend one if it isn't too far away! To my knowledge there hasn't been one for the Louisville area (or maybe they went to one and didn't invite me! oh the horror! ). Years ago the Cincinnati people invited the Louisville people to go to theirs--that was so nice of them! I didn't go though.
One problem is that my husband would think I'm nuts when I tell him I want to travel to a distant city to meet a bunch of strangers from the internet. He just doesn't understand what I do here (I KNOW! It's SO important!). But he is such a "people person" that everyone will like him better than me.
Cities in the Midwest would be ideal locations for me. Or Texas or Florida because I want to take a road trip.
The only poster I have met in person told me that there had been several regional get-togethers in his area and everybody had a good time. I enjoyed meeting that poster in person - we had breakfast together in his area while I was on a road trip in my car. However, I don't think I would attend a general "open house" type of gathering. Why? Well, I find a certain percentage of posters (maybe 5% ???) to be jerks. With my luck those would be the ones who would attend the gathering!
Our sub-forum, NEPA, discussed it last year, but while I was willing to attend, it ended up that everybody had an opinion on where and how it would be held. By the time everyone put their 2 cents in, we ended up not having it.
I think it may be better to just announce that you plan to be in (name the place) on (name the day) and ask anyone interested to join you. Of course, you may be all alone, so bring a book!
If City-Data were to hold an informal get-together, (1) would you attend, and (2) when and where would you recommend it be held?
Would I attend? Maybe. When and where would I recommend it be held? Summertime on a cruise ship (anyone but Carnival ) would be nice.
So, what do you think?
Yes and Yes.
I'm the same way online and offline. There are several posters I want to meet in person. I think they must be very interesting wonderful people offline as well.
Too yuppyified for me, but I would watch a videotape of the proceedings for my amusement.
