It probably depends... I have certain images and ideas of some posters and I'm afraid it would be ruined if I actually met them.
I'd only attend if everyone wore a hood, as I can be very prejudicial by people's looks!
I used to go on the forum on Myspace, where so many had pix's, and given how prejudicial I can be, if there was something about this person's looks I didn't like, onto the Ignore List they went!
I'm not talking about color prejudice either! It might just take someone wearing skads of jewelry, an ugly laugh, a facial tattoo or piercing and that's all it would take!

The only poster I have met in person told me that there had been several regional get-togethers in his area and everybody had a good time. I enjoyed meeting that poster in person - we had breakfast together in his area while I was on a road trip in my car. However, I don't think I would attend a general "open house" type of gathering. Why? Well, I find a certain percentage of posters (maybe 5% ???) to be jerks. With my luck those would be the ones who would attend the gathering!
Obviously you've never driven through the "Politics and Other Controversies" forum. 5% jerks? Go higher !

I have no reason to disbelieve you, as I have heard similar comments a number of times about "Politics and Other Controversies". Therefore I feel no need or desire to do any reading there in order to confirm your opinion. The percentage of jerks we enounter is bound to vary depending on which forums we frequent. I spend more time in Retirement than any other forum, but I understand Religion can also be a hotbed of rudeness and hostility. Health and Wellness draws a number of what I would call nut cases, people who believe that getting a vaccination is simply poisoning our bodies while conferring no benefit, for example.
i'd go. it'd be a very cool experience you could make some new friends and possibly more if it was an all week thing in lets say las vegas and we got some really good room rates.
If City-Data were to hold an informal get-together, (1) would you attend, and (2) when and where would you recommend it be held?
Would I attend? Maybe. When and where would I recommend it be held? Summertime on a cruise ship (anyone but Carnival ) would be nice.
So, what do you think?
I know that NYC forum has had at least 2 of them but I wasn't available either time. But I would consider going if I am available and then they do again.
Id go, thought it w/b fun to meet different people thru CD have met others thru diff. meetup groups and it's been very nice. It was briefly mentioned on a CD forum but no one was interested. Maybe someone else will suggest it althugh at this point I dont see it happening (hopefully Im wrong)
