I interrupt people and ask "What time do you open?" no matter the time of day. I'm not going to live forever, and being a New Yorker, I learned to be rude at a young age.
I typically will turn around and walk out, but I think the next time it happens to me, I will try this! Thanks!
I would of said hello is anyone working. Made a noise done something to attract his attention. Management not returning your phone call says a lot about the place as well.

Actually, she was really nice, and I just said that I was concerned and wanted to call attention to the matter so it wouldn't happen to anyone else, blah blah blah.
She said the next time I go in there it will be free. I may not go to that location again, though. Hmm. Well, at least he would make my sandwich right in front of me, so I could see if he spat on it.
I am sometimes amazed how often I am right on these things...

I had a lady at a blood draw place with a room full of patients just after they opened sitting there on a very long obviously personal call talking about WalMart and car payments and I went up and asked if there would be anyone checking in patients. She got snarky with me and said that yes, she is doing that. I told her I thought she was on break.....
I was driving alone from the Four Corners area of Colorado back to the eastern part of Pennsylvania where I live.
I took a different route back from the one I took out to Colorado.
The route I took back was a more southerly one that took me through OK,AR,TN,VA then up to PA.
The only and I mean the only negative food experience I had on my entire round trip occurred in the evening in Bristol VA where I had stopped for the night.
I was extremely tired from driving all day and very hungry. I spotted a Wendy's within four blocks of my motel so after I checked into my room I immediately made a beeline to there for a nice juicy burger.
It was approx. 7:00 PM and the drive through and parking lot were empty.
I walked in, chose what I was going to order and waited for the 30 something woman to stop talking with her friends who were on the customer side of the ordering counter.
To my shock they kept on talking without so much as an acknowledgement as to my existence.
I spoke up and asked if I could order? The woman looked at me with a straight face for a second then went back to talking with her friends.
In absolute shock I left and went over to a chain sit down diner type place and was treated very well with that rural ish southern kindness that I had in the previous legs of my journey back home.
I've never had that strong of a negative experience in any retail or food service visit before or since.

Whoa! That was just downright rude! I would've been in shock, too. I think it's better when employees act like they don't see me. Because even if I know they heard the bell ding or whatever, there's always a possibility they didn't. But making eye contact with me? It shows they just don't care.
Hi! I'm not sure which category to put this under, so I chose this one. Last Friday morning, I entered a well-known fast food restaurant. The only employee working at that time was on his cell phone. He looked at me yet continued talking. I stood there forever and he just kept on talking. So I left.
Yet, as I was getting into my car, I noticed another [male] customer walk in, and the employee quickly got off the phone and served him!!
I never, ever yell sexism, but wow! To me, it seems like that's what this was. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your comments
Sounds like the guy needs a less demanding job than a fast food clerk. I would do everything in my power to get the idiot fired. He can't handle the job and he needs to find something more suitable to his skills.
Found out he's the manager!!!! YES! The district manager told me yesterday. She said he was reprimanded at some meeting they had on Wed. in front of everyone and that he was remorseful. Of course he was! He got caught. People are a trip sometimes.
