The street is not your private property, but they do not get to block you into your driveway. Speak with the parents that show up. Put up a sign "Do not block driveway" and then call the cops the next time they block the driveway and let the COPS explain it to them as they're writing the tickets.

Maybe things are different where you live, but the police here would never come if they got a call like that.

A caller reporting that their driveway is blocked would be told to call a tow truck to have the car removed. Nothing would happen when they are told no car is involved, that it's kids playing in the street.

I DO like the idea of signage, though.

Make them some food, go out and play with them and you will make friends for life.

This would be very annoying...maybe sell your house and move out of a neighborhood. or you could try hanging out in the yard in thongs and rollerblading around the culdesac in the thongs after eating beans, soda and salami and not holding anything back...playing music with obscene lyrics ...putting anatomically correct yard gnomes. and.other statues in the landscape....the parents will probably start keeping the kids away real soon and find a different culdesac and youll have some privacy back.

Yeah... like the MIL with brain cancer would appreciate that....

Seriously? You would do all that?

If you strategically parked your vehicles in the cul de sac that might dissuade the parents from dropping their kids off to play there. No one wants to pay for a damaged vehicle.

Legally, I doubt there is anything you can do. I think you should set some boundaries without trying to banish them entirely. Very politely tell the parents that you don't mind the kids playing in the street, but could they please not block the driveway with their equipment.

You're in a bit of a pickle.
YOU SHOULD NEVER feel bad about conversing with the parents or anyone with issues pertaining to safety.

Nothing like the sound of children playing from afar but nothing more disturbing than children playing on your property.

I was under the impression that the MIL could get ill and theyd have to leave to go to the hospital or her home..not that she lived with them but maybe I'm wrong. Yea i would probably do something like that because its inconsiderate of those people to haul all of that equipment down there and cause all that raucous outside their house. It would be the same situation if the OP went and set up a lounge chair in front of one of their houses and played music or started practicing playing some horn or other instrument as it is a public street and area. Its just rude..those people dont even live on that street..They can stay in front of their own place and cause the raucous or take it to a park..IMO.

Check your zoning laws. I have never lived anywhere where children are allowed to play in the street.
