just wondering , did you meet them at school , at work , on the street or something and did you know when you met them they would become their best friend?

i met my best friend in Primary school in Year 5 , he was the new kid and my old best friend had just left at the end of the previous school year and we just sort of became friends.

I have many "best friends." How do you quantify who is "best"?

Two I met in 7th grade on a class trip to Six Flags.
One I met first day of freshman year in college.
Three are neighbors.
One I met when our girls were in preschool together.
One I met at work.

Met mine in our junior year of high school. We had gym class together, and one day it rained and we were stuck in the gym. Since we dressed in the same aisle, we began chatting. She hasn't stopped bothering me since, 39 years later!

3 top dear friends in a spiritual group
Another in a Happy Hour drinking group
Another at a party...she didn't know anyone,
hung out with me ever since.

2 other close friends thru an introduction of someone
I met at work, that isn't a friend.

Other great friends (but not super close) at parties...we would all
be there for each other if we were in need...
all the above.

I wanted to live near where I worked at the time. Across the street was a condomimium complex. I said to myself many times "I'd love to move there." Saw ad in an alternative newspaper. When I called I asked is this at --- and he said it was. Stroke of luck. So this worked out in many ways. We have been friends for 23 years.

I almost lost him as he failed in a suicide attempt several months ago. Saw him recently for the first time since that happened and he is doing much better than the previous two times I called him. I'm sure my doom and gloom attitude and me being down on life as of late didn't help and I felt real bad about that. I'm just very happy he survived. I also think I may have missed a sign a week before that happened.

I have a friend that lives in San Francisco that I have known for 42 years. He is my oldest friend I have. I've been out to visit 3 times (always a blast) and he has family in my area. We met through a mutual friend who I worked with at the time who has long since disappeared. He probably would be my best friend if he didn't move out there but I still consider us pretty close.

My best friend & I were born 11 days apart & our parents were neighbors & friends. We went to daycare & grade school together & are still best friends today. I'm the godmother of one of her sons. Even though we separated from time to time as we went to college & proceeded with our careers, she recently reminded me that out of all the different people she met throughout her life, I was the only one who never betrayed her & she can still count on! I said the same to her!
