Seriously... this "issue" is everywhere. It's no worse in NC then anywhere else I've driven.

This is not a North Carolina thing. Being within the North Carolina border does not make one automatically drive slow in the left lane. At least on I85 in Metro Charlotte, people go at least 5+ even in the right lane....

It sounds like you disdain us or something.

Paper, if NC driving is making you crazy, don't bother to ever drive in South Florida. In addition to what bugs you about NC driving, the people in South Florida will blow your mind with the number of rules that they break. I have seen things here that I never even imagined someone doing.

Once again, I agree. Florida is awful too. Maybe even worse than NC.

It is perfectly legal to linger in the left lane in NC. It is also legal to talk on your cell phone while driving in NC These laws need to change for better traffic flow.

These signs are posted all along the highways of NC so the OP is correct. It's a simple concept really. Just stay in the right lane unless you're passing someone.

It's not a made up rule. You can check it out for yourself on page 62 of the NC Drivers Handbook. It says....

"Keep to the right, use the left lane(s) for passing."

Actually K, it is taught in most drivers ed courses that slower traffic is supposed to ride in the right lane. And that means even people doing the speed limit. This is an actual law.

The left lane is known as "the passing lane" and you are not supposed to travel in it UNLESS there is no other traffic around you.

Even if you are doing the speed limit you are not supposed to be in the left lane when others around you want to go faster. That is why it is called "the passing lane" so people can pass
