In December, I got a speeding ticket for supposedly doing 56 in a 35, however when the officer pulled me over, he said it was in a 45. When I received the ticket, it said it was in a 35. My court date is set for February 13, exactly a week before I turn 18. When he gave me the ticket, he said it wasn't mandatory to show up, but upon further searching a mandatory court appearance is required with this kind of accusation. I'm so confused! I also have no prior convictions whatsoever. Could someone please help?!
You will probably be contacted by a NC attorney. Let them handle your case, it will probably cost you around $200+ but it will be downgraded to faulty equipment and you will get no points and your insurance co will not be notified.
This happens every single day in NC and that is how it can work. I know because it happened to me and I took the advise of NC people on this site and it was handled just like I said.

Thank you! That makes me feel so much better. I was really afraid they would take my license.
do you dispute you were going 56 (or close to it)?
It was close to it. I was doing it in a 45, and after the 45 zone it's 35, that's when I dropped down to 35. After the thirty five zone, is 55, which is where the cop pulled me over.

AKA: speed trap
Anywhere else, with nothing else on your record, the judge would do a deferred adjudication
something like a "probation before judgment" (in NC it's called prayer for judgment)...
no points but then hit you for court costs and maybe the fine too. No lawyer needed.
In NC... they're more proactive about keeping their golf buddy's fees coming in.
I'll defer to PDD's direct experience though it is a disturbing indictment.
