So since you insist on counting Downtown Durham and downtown Raleigh together, Maybe you can help fill me in on how Durham Bulls baseball games make downtown Raleigh more lively like A Charlotte Knights baseball game makes uptown Charlotte more lively.
I think the point he was trying to make was that Triangle residents get to enjoy two downtowns, while Charlotte residents only get to enjoy one downtown.
On the other hand, I get your point as well. Charlotte's center city area is probably larger than downtown Durham and downtown Raleigh combined (in terms of sporting events, jobs, visitors, residents, concerts, and mass transit options/usage).

No offense, but that doesn't sound very enjoyable; especially if I didn't have a designated driver. I'd much rather go to a Knights game then take the LYNX over to South End.
Speaking of the Knights. Are the knights any good this year or are they going to be let's be nice and say not so good like all the other Charlotte area teams?

The Hornets and Panthers were both playoff teams last year, but for most people, it's not about how well the teams play. It's about the experience of being out-on-the-town in an urban setting. Now that the Knights are uptown, it's no surprise that they went from dead-last in AAA attendance to #1.
People want to be uptown; people want to do things uptown. As a matter of fact, more and more people wish to live uptown as well. We are seeing this trend throughout the Nation. Raleigh is seeing it as well with Skyhouse and the apartments near Cameron Village.

The Panthers and Bobcats did make the playoffs last year. The Panthers did have a great season last year. And had a good playoff run. But the Bobcats on the other hand were barely over .500. And only made the playoffs because the rest of the east was a dumpster fire! Then got embarrassed in the playoffs. The only team to get swept. ALL the other first round series were great. But they showed they didn't belong!
Also most people don't think it's very fun to go out spend your hard earned money to see your home team get smoked. What's so exciting about that? One better year also doesn't make up for years of frankly being a dumpster fire.
Maybe the Triangle could learn a thing or two about "urbanism" BUT the Charlotte teams could surely learn from ALL the Triangle teams about being a winner.
It doesn't that's silly! Both stand alone! But both benefit the triangle as a whole. It's usually something to do in both. Always something to do in one or the other. Depends on what's going on. Many people go to a Bulls game and then later on go to Glenwood South for example.
And my point in mentioning DT Durham and the Bulls was it was lively ALSO! Because of the AAA All-Star Game.
Exactly. Both stand alone.
That's why it makes no sense to me why people keep making comparisons between downtown Raleigh and downtown Durham vs. uptown Charlotte. It's either downtown Durham vs. Uptown Charlotte or Downtown Raleigh VS. uptown Charlotte.
Now comparing Metrolina to the Triangle, then I could see a more valid point... Yes, in both metros you can see minor league baseball and watch a concert or what have you.
And yes, our major league teams will try to keep up With college teams
In Uptown Charlotte, you can go to a concert, watch a baseball game, watch a football game, and watch a basketball game. You can't do all four in Downtown Durham or Downtown Raleigh.

You forgot about Minor league hockey. As it stands now, uptown has 2 pro teams and 2 minor league teams. That's a total of over 150 sporting events uptown every year. Very few cities in the southeast has as many downtown sporting events as Charlotte. With all of the sports, concerts, residents, and visitors; I just can't figure out why uptown still lacks major retail.
