This is government, not corporate America.
They do get paid less, but she couldn't care less about that. She is not responsible for a budget. She is responsible for bring a project in on time and she does that with the people she is given.

I just saw this interesting article, and thought of this thread. Looks like there might be many new job openings for bright, young, inexperienced people who need only to be told which way to believe/behave.

Ughhh ... politics. I think I like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever ticks a bit more.

I was thankful to put in my notice with the state of NC this past week. They no longer care about institutional knowledge, intricate program knowledge, or skills directly related to producing the required output. All they care about is how much you raised for McCrory's campaign. Meanwhile critical unfilled positions are frozen and of course, a grand total of 1.2% raise for state employees in the past SIX years.

Sounds like a typical government job to me.

Well it shouldn't.

If you want efficient, effective government you should demand that the government hire the best workers. As it stands only the lazy, unmotivated and under-skilled would be interested in State jobs.

I know from first hand experience that one good person can do the job of two bad people... That good person may cost 1.5X the bad, but it's a sound investment. If you can get past the politics.

These kids are in high ranking health care jobs with an English and economics degree. I doubt they're running circles around anyone with a pulse.

In the grand scheme, it's up to the Governor. Judge his total staff budget compare to the prior Governors and how effective he is. If he hires bad people it will show in his results. You get to fire him in 3 .5 years

That isn't the issue. It's the outrageous hypocrisy of politicians screaming for "small" gubment and blasting others for spending in other areas. When the rubber meets the road, these frauds should be exposed for what they are...social conservatives and not fiscal conservatives which has always been the case.

Symbolic gestures can mean a lot. It just plain looks bad (and is terrible p.r.) to hire these young folks at good salaries to begin with and give them substantial raises in only a few short months when the rest of state government and teachers are having to deal with severe austerity measures. I know that all administration past and present have reaped the spoils of politics but to use (and abuse) the state coffers as a personal gravy train, especially in this day and time, isn't the right thing to do.
