... The lunacy at the heart of this demand to police every public bathroom was captured by Leon Lott, the sheriff of Richland County in South Carolina, who told state lawmakers last week that the law would be unenforceable because his officers could not be in the business of inspecting people’s genitals.
... Despite what supporters of these laws might claim, the measures do nothing to make restrooms safer. They will only further stigmatize and endanger people who already face systemic discrimination. If lawmakers who might want to follow North Carolina’s abhorrent example aren’t moved by appeals to equality and human rights, they should ponder this reality: The price of bigotry is becoming quite steep.
My observations ...
1. Sexual assault in public restrooms is a crime that is extremely rare. There hasn't been an epidemic of sex crimes in public restrooms suddenly to justify a new law.
2. A sex criminal and predator usually ignores laws if he thinks he can get away with it. There are laws against indecent exposure, exhibitionism, lewd and lascivious behavior - but people are arrested for violating those laws every day.
3. The bathroom provision of HB2 was an excuse - a smokescreen - to invalidate the civil rights provisions in Charlotte and other cities local ordinances that covered gay, lesbian and bisexual citizens.
4. It's an election year and this controversy was cooked up by politicians looking to curry favor with their most prejudiced constituents.
It was an ill conceived tactic by Republicans in North Carolina that backfired, now causing the Tar Heel State hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs and tens of millions of dollars in lost revenues.
Good for all who are boycotting!! It's nice to see christians get some of their own medicine. Being christian and Republican are a choice.
Treat others as you would like to be treated!! Sounds like more of a joke in NC!!
One of the problems with this is that many democrats voted in favor also and other democrats who were going to vote in favor were part of a cowardly walkout, in order to not have their vote on record.
I think rather than boycotting and hurting innocent people, the better course of action is holding the concerts/events as planned and donating that money toward a better solution overall.
Today Duke officials wrote a letter asking for nothing less than a full repeal. The Gov. on Meet the Press said everything was a result of LBGT activists. What a stupid statement. Really how bad does it have to get? Will something happen when the GA gets back in a week? Or are they standing pat? I think they are still hoping it will die down. Good luck with that reasoning.

You seem oblivious to facts so I don't know if i should believe that Dem voted for the bill statement. And last time i checked, businesses and concerts have a right to take their business in areas that suit them better and isn't hostile towards minorities. Ever heard of hospitality tax? Yea, the loss of that will wake Raleigh up and make changes when they can't balance their budgets. Again, we the people voted these representatives into office, therefore we shall suffer equal fate. Next time everybody will be wiser and vote for progress.
