And you apparently don't realize that the 12th congressional district was created under order from the DOJ, in order to have 2 minority majority districts. And it was actually put together by republican members of the general assembly. The "blame" for the 12th lies with the DOJ, not the democrats in the general assembly.

I lived in the 12th District in 1992. Democrats were in love with it and Mel Watts was the result.
Regardless, isn't it disingenuous to say the GOP "gerrymandered" it, when they just inherited it? They brought down the racial inequity a good bit, after all.
The Democrats who controlled the Legislature wanted to insure that two of North Carolina's 12 members of Congress would be black, reflecting the state's 22 percent black population. But they also wanted to protect white Democratic incumbents, who in many cases owed their seats to black voters' loyalty to the Democratic Party. The challenge was to draw lines that would do both.
Really, they have to bring magistrates in from other counties if someone wants to get married in Caldwell County.

Ok but I think that many employers would accomodate Christians and people of other religious faiths on not working a certain day. Do you have a problem with that?
You are basically saying that the government should not hire any Christians if they do not want to do 1 task out of thousands tasks, and a task that won't be that frequent given gay people are a tiny percentage of the population and only a fraction are seeking to get married, and the task that can be done by other people in the office.
"The 1991 North Carolina General Assembly originally enacted a congressional plan with one minority district, the 1st, in the northeastern part of the State where demographics make a compact Black district easier to draw, especially if joined with the Black precincts of nearby Durham. That plan was disapproved by the U.S. Justice Department under the Voting Rights Act because of alleged lack of minority representation. (North Carolina's Black population amounts to 22 percent of the total population. One district is only 8 percent of 12 districts. Two of 12 is 16 percent.) The General Assembly, then controlled by Democrats, responded in early 1992 by enacting the famous 12th. Republican legislators had proposed several plans that contained two minority districts; in drawing the 12th, the Democratic leaders simply picked one of those plans."
