Cities having history is cool and all but I really think some of you guys put too much emphasis on it, every city data post keeps repeating, "history History! HISTORY!!!" in all honesty most people aren't moving to where they move to because of history(at least not as the main factor). Don't misinterpret this as to say it is not important, it definitely is, just in my opinion in particular to the Raleigh vs Charlotte debate, I don't see how history of either city would be the decided factor of which place is better.

This post is full of pettiness with both parties down playing the other. Both are good cities, both are growing, but living in Cary, working in Raleigh, and visiting Charlotte on a regular basis(wife's folks live in Charlotte), Charlotte is growing more and does have more to offer. Is it the leaps and bounds better city people making it out to be? No. At the same time this is due to the debate really being the triangle area vs Charlotte, vs being Raleigh alone vs Charlotte alone. I also think the whole trying to be Atlanta needs to be put to rest, only similarities for people that's been to both cities, is that there two large cities in the south with similar demographics.

Two years ago, The AJC did a report on the Atlanta vs Charlotte difference. IMO, they gave a very fair and balanced report.

The AME Zion Church was founded in NYC and UHOP was founded in Massachusetts. Both denominations have a substantial presence in Charlotte however.

Interesting article. Explains the dichotomy that some people don't understand the dynamics between the two cities despite spending every second debating whose better because someone has Duke Energy vs. Wegmans.

Charlotte - Strong center city growth. Perception of bigger city.

Triangle - Just like most southern cities, multiple growth nodes with spread growth.

But I'll let you guys resume going back and forth who has Duke Energy, NASCAR, UNC, etc.

Interesting NYTimes analysis. Cary has been growing faster than Raleigh and you have Morrisville, Apex, Fuqua-Varina, Holly Springs etc, a lot of metro Raleigh's growth has been suburban.

Hats off to Charlotte for becoming more dense and urban. The light rail extensions are going to accelerate this great trend.

Most Southern metros aren't multinodal like the Triangle; most have one primary city that is the undisputed center of the region. It just so happens that in NC, two of the three largest regions are multinodal.

In 50 to 100 years, they may grow all together with Raleigh.

Charlotte has Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Fort Mill and Indian Land to the south and east and Hunterville to the North join to Charlotte's city limits.
Concord & Harrisburg in Cabarrus County.

If the North Lynx Blue Line grows like Southend in 2 or 3 places, the density of Charlotte will only increase.
Also west of the airport will look different in 20 years. Lake Wylie is a big draw in that area. Yes Charlotte has a 2 large lakes next to its city limits, Mountain Island Lake and Lake Wylie.

You are actually wrong on this one Mutiny. They were both founded here. In fact the AME Zion headuarters is in Charlotte. The UTOP headquarters moved yeasrs ago after it's founding. In fact Bishop Grace started here. The Museum of The New South has a wonderful exhibit highlighting these
