Whoops I read some old threads not too sanguine about the area.

I notice they are selling the old municipal building for $39,000 on Elm. I guess that's why its so cheap. Is that a bad area 112 North Elm?

You're going to warm up the usual perceptions about these towns in southeast NC along Highway 74. They're all pretty "Meh".

People I've met from these areas are usually glad to get away, although I know one officeworker who grew up in Lumberton that joined a work-from-home program, and moved to Fayetteville to be closer to family. She said it's not bad to keep a Charlotte salary and work out there, and also afford to live in one of the nicer parts of town.

This is what the area looks like on Google Street view (and you can click on the street and navigate to explore around):

So the area looks like it has been improved. The building may need a lot of work.

Yes, Lumberton is a bad area. Would not recommend.

Yeah I took a drive through on Google. Either there are a lot of vacancies - empty buildings or there is a Three Mile Island- Cherynobyl thing going on.

Lumberton has always been one of the less desirable towns in NC... at least in my 60+ yr lifetime.

I wouldn't choose to live there. There are far better places to live in NC. What draws you to Lumberton specifically?
