As someone who grew up in Podunk Louisburg, NC and then spent the last 30 years in Atlanta, LA, NY, MA, and NJ I offer some insight that may be of some value.

I still loathe those rocking chairs. They have nothing in common with anything else in the terminal, not part of a theme, and especially don't mesh with Charlotte's curated image of itself.

Are they to be used by travelers who you'd expect to barely have enough time to hit the restroom and grab some food before boarding again?

I think people would look stupid rocking back and forth like it's Sunday right after church on the front porch.

But it's just my opinion.

A company that produces sustainable paints and coatings to industries like construction and manufacturing machinery has plans to expand and relocate in Mecklenburg County.

Teknos U.S. Inc., part of Finland-based Teknos, will embark on a $4.2 million expansion and create 25 new jobs, according to the county's economic development office. The company today employs 17 locally, positions that will be retained. The growth will allow Teknos to increase its manufacturing capacity.

Mecklenburg will provide $88,417 in incentives over a five-year term, upon approval by the board of commissioners. The state is also providing funds between $1,200 to $1,400 per new eligible position through the N.C. Community College System, to develop customized training for Teknos U.S. The company has been in Mecklenburg County since 2007.

Teknos U.S. has signed a lease for 45,000 square feet at 2205 Beltway Blvd., part of the WestPark 85 development in unincorporated Mecklenburg County. The company currently leases flex space at Whitehall in southwest Charlotte. A spokeswoman for Teknos said the company will relocate in early December.7

Meanwhile, there’s never, ever a free rocking chair. And they’re literally everywhere in the airport.

GoTriangle’s race against the clock got a boost Tuesday when Raleigh City Council approved its rezoning request allowing for development up to 40 stories on the site for a proposed bus station adjacent to Union Station.

Council's approval for the site on S. West Street comes after GoTriangle added several amendments to its application, including increased commitments to historical preservation in the Warehouse District and affordable housing. GoTriangle submitted the changes shortly after discussions with council during last month’s public hearing on the rezoning.

The property, situated on 1.76-acres at 200, 206 and 210 S. West Street, was previously zoned for just 12 stories. Federal funding restrictions have GoTriangle on a deadline for the project, with work required to be underway by 2020.

Downtown Greensboro

400 Bellemeade (Project Slugger office tower)

Steel rising up another two floors which will put it at the 5th floor. Pretty tall for 5 stories. The ceiling heights for each floor of the 9 story tower is higher than your typical office building. In essence each floor is almost the height of a floor and a half of a typical building which means it will actually be about 11 to 13 stories tall even though it will have 9 floors.

Moody's quietly opens tech office in Charlotte, plans to soon hire another 100

A technology office for Moody's Corp. (NYSE: MCO) has quietly opened up shop in Charlotte, with the potential for it to employ 140 total within the next six months.

Tim Bhatt, the Charlotte-based chief technology officer of Moody's Investors Service — Moody's credit-ratings and research business — confirmed Monday what had long been rumored in local real estate circles: that the company has opened a technology center in the Queen City. Bhatt said the company has about 40 technologists in the local office today, currently at WeWork in Regions 615 in uptown, but it expects to hire an additional 100 in Charlotte over the next three to six months.

The local office will be secondary to Moody's tech center in New York, where the financial services company is based.

Bhatt said the jobs being hired for in Charlotte are inclusive of the company's central IT organization and the tech division he oversees at Moody's Investors Service. Positions being sought for Moody's in Charlotte include jobs in application development, infrastructure, DevOps, engineering and data. Moody's website currently lists 36 job postings for Charlotte.
