Yes a lot of retired people are moving there, AND a lot of not so old also.

Just out of curiosity, at what age do you classify someone as "old"?

I have a friend at 90 was still a qualified ski (snow) instructor.

Would you consider him one of your "old" people?

Yes, your 90 year old friend is old. Old doesn't mean inactive / dead. It doesn't mean they don't work. In general, the age 65 or older is considered a senior citizen in this country.

Older Americans are attracted to Brunswick more than other areas... that's a fact. The areas median age is skewing older due to more advanced age people moving to the county than people in their 20's - 40's.
34% of Brunswick is over the age of 65.
This contrasts to 17.3% in the USA.

So yes, Brunswick is older than the United States.

Do you consider nobody to be old? Everybody is just middle age for eternity? Why is old offensive? Your 90 year old friend can be young at heart, physically fit, et... but his age is his age.

"34% of Brunswick is over the age of 65."

Kinda debunks your claim right there.

"Older Americans are attracted to Brunswick more than other areas... that's a fact."

Really?

"Maine, Florida, West Virginia, and Vermont had the highest percentage of populations age 65+ in 2020"

Hey, I am NOT denying Brunswick is growing, and a lot ARE 65 and older, but other states and counties are doing the same.

"in terms of numeric growth and decline, Maricopa County, Arizona, saw the largest population gain, growing by 56,831 people and 1.3% from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2022."

34% is double the 17% of the state that is over 65. You are more likely to run into a 70 - 79 year old person than a child in Brunswick. That's unusual from my perspective cause it is not close to the state average or USA. We will probably never agree on a definition of a large amount of elderly people though. Here is Brunswick County versus the state as a whole. People can draw their own conclusions on if they think the county is relatively senior.

I also never said it is bad that Brunswick is relatively old. It is an attractive retirement destination and will continue to grow due to the climate, location, and state tax situation compared to locations retirees or empty nesters lived prior. It is growing at multiple age ranges, just faster growth among the elderly pulling the median up. An example is from 2018 - 2022, the population of 20 - 39 years old increased 5,577 people while the population of people 70 and older increased 13,034.

Brunswick:
0 - 19: 15.4%
20 - 29: 7.7%
30 - 39: 10.5%
40 - 49: 8.7%
50 to 59: 13.4%
60 - 69: 21%
70 - 79: 18.3%
80+: 5.1%
Median age: 56.3 - oldest in the state

North Carolina:
0 - 19: 24.2%
20 - 29: 13.4%
30 - 39: 13.4%
40 - 49: 12.4%
50 to 59: 12.7%
60 - 69: 12.1%
70 - 79: 8.2%
80+: 3.6%
Median age: 39.2
