I am appalled at the NC Senate proposing to drop some people from healthcare insurance. I am all for fiscal prudence but achieving that via resource cutbacks to our vulnerable population is callous.
"People who are on a state/county assistance program that pays room and board in assisted living homes automatically qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid is used to pay for care such as bathing, eating and other services. The Senate would end that practice of linking Medicaid to state/county assistance, meaning that thousands of people would lose health insurance."
I agree with the OP. The correct way for the Republicans in the Legis. is to take the Federal Expanded Medicare. The Feds pick up 100% of the tap for the first 2 years and 90% after. This is a no brainer unless you cannot do the math.

Incorrect. We, the taxpayer pick up the tab not the Feds. Where do you think the Feds' money comes from? At this point in our financial history it is good business sense for NC not to be owing the Feds any more money than necessary.

Do you think people who might otherwise qualify for Medicaid just simply disappear because our state chose not to expand Medicaid? Really? Do you believe that? That's not how it works! Those people are still turning up at the emergency room and receiving care and if you have any form of health insurance, guess what those costs are being shifted to you.

We cannot afford everything. If you feel that strongly about it head on down to the capital and start writing checks to the state. You can have teacher raises or Medicaid funding, pick one.

You are right that our federal tex dollars are funding the Medicaid expansion but right now our NC federal tex dollars are funding the Medicaid expansion in other states. Does that make any sense for the citizens of NC?

The plan is to do neither.
Instead there was a tax cut for the wealthy of the state.
