Looking to Re-Locate to North Carolina from Boston-Suggestions?
My best friend and I are looking to relocate to North Carolina in about a year.
We are young- both 23, not married and no children. We are finding more and more the city life is just not for us. We arent sure if we want to be completely away from civilization- but more just a layed back pace of life, where the simple things in life are valued- like family and friends. We want to get away from the "rat race" of the city, so to speak.
We love the outdoors, the mountains, but also like the coast. Our ideal night is just a backyard fire, with friends, family, a grill and some beers. Just to paint you a picture of the type of people we are.
Any information would be helpful! Thank you!

Kerri, the problem is, the cities are where the jobs are - well, USUALLY (not so much right now though, NC unemployment rate is very high).
So while I can appreciate you want a simpler life, a lot will depend on what kind of jobs you can find. If, by any chance, you are a nurse or in the medical field in general, you'll have a better chance at jobs in areas where you could find the kind of life you are looking for. I like and recommend Winston Salem, Newton Conover, Kings Mountain, Troutman, just to name a few places.

I live North of Boston. Lived in NC for two years, the unemployment rate was high in 2004 and it's even higher now. Don't move without anything lined up.
I lived in Asheville, it was boring but it was beautiful. The tourism industry is hurting and thats what the city thrives on.
This time when I move back, going to Charlotte or Lexington and working out of Charlotte. LINE SOMETHING UP!
PS: Massachusetts sucks. Born and raised here, can't stand it.
