I visited both Greensboro and Raleigh before moving to NC and settling in Raleigh. I would pick Raleigh hands down over Greensboro every day of the week. The job market of the Triangle is much better IMO. The pool of opportunity is much deeper and wider with Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill all so close together and the different job opportunities they collectivey provide. Along with the three major universities (NC State, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill) and the RTP employment juggernaut it is a no brainer in my book.
Skylines are pretty to look at, but they don't pay the bills. There is a reason why the Triangle has so many people moving to the area.
Raleigh's skyline is very linear, the view from the south side of beltline does not do DT Raleigh any justice. The part of Raleigh prwfromnc drove through is the least developed part of town. I don't blame him for being impressed by that part of town. If he drove north bound on 440, he would have felt much different.
Are you suggesting that the Triad doesn't have any opportunity?

Well, I am VERY familiar with Raleigh and prwfromnc's opinion was fairly accurate. Raleigh looks/feels much more like Greensboro and Winston-Salem than it does Charlotte. The I-40 corridor cities of NC really don't stand out like Charlotte, Nashville, Louisville and the likes.

That's a factual statement. It was in no way a slight towards the Triad. There's a lot of opportunity in the Triad, there just so happens to be more in the Triangle.

I think you're right, metro.m, since we didn't make any stops in Raleigh, I probably didn't have a chance to see more of Raleigh. I will probably have to visit Raleigh more to get a better feel for the city and what it has to offer. I know 40/440 doesn't tell the whole story, but hopefully, I will get a chance to see more of Raleigh in the near future and check out more of Raleigh and be a little more objective and open-minded.
