Any comments on the Steamtown area? I just got a house there and am wondering about things like gyms, tennis courts, shopping areas, parks, etc. Thanks.

Steamtown is nowhere near Luzerne St....its right off of Lackawanna Ave, right behind the Steamtown Mall.

Luzerne St. is a few blocks south, over the tracks.

You live in West Scranton, there are no areas of Scranton referred to as Steamtown, except for the mall and the site itself.

I live near downtown Scranton...shopping, well there are 4 malls within an hour's drive of Scranton, Universities and colleges in abundance. Scranton is referred to as Steamtown, as well as "Electric City". There is Nay Aug park which is a great place if you enjoy running/walking. If you like pizza you will have your choice of "mom and pop" restaurants or the chains. There is Mohegan Sun casino.

Well, Coey, Mohegan Sun Casino is not exactly in Scranton. It's close, though. It's in Plains Township, which is actually closer to Wilkes-Barre, but not prohibitively far from your city to drive down and waste, er, I mean spend a couple of hours and a couple of dollars.

And welcome to CD.

You're right, Luzerne St. is a few blocks away. I never heard Scranton referred to as Steamtown. And I never heard of any area or neighborhood referred as that as well.

Isn't that something that would be investigated before getting a home? Neighborhood make up is part of the home buying strategy...
