And the catholic schools? Let me guess, horrible?

There are serious conflicting opinions on this area but everyone seems to agree the schools suck.

I know plenty of people who send their kids to Msgr. McHugh and I've coached kids from McHugh. It's a good school. Grades are K thru 8.

If you feel like travelling down to East Stroudsburg I can recommend Notre Dame Elementary and Jr/Sr High schools. Both of our boys started in the Pre-K Montessori program there when they were 3.

This is a great time to check out McHugh or Notre Dame. They are having Open House this Sunday Jan 29 from 1-3PM. One of the age-old myths is you have to be Catholic to go there, but not in the 21st Century!

Send me a private message if you want detailed info.

I don't live in the East Stroudsburg area, but I live in Wilkes-Barre and the schools here are not so great. We elected to send them to the local Catholic High School. We are Lutherans and we were a little nervous.

But you are right, this is the 21st Century and the school is way more diverse than I expected! The majority are Catholic,, but a significant number are not and all are there for the good education, personal attention and safety.

For the two of them it's about 10-8 thousand. But that depends on a few things.

I am hardly an expert on Catholic Schools, but the lower grades are less expensive. My taxes in my former area (property and school) were way more than this.

Notre Dame HS in East Stroudsburg is $6100.00 per year if you're active in a Catholic parish ("active" meaning you put money in the basket every week and the pastor will sign off that you do!). Non-Catholics or lapsed Catholics it's $7100.00 per year. Junior High is lower, as is Elementary. The Poconos are more expensive than Wilkes-Barre in everything including Catholic school.

If you want high-end prep-school style Catholic education you can try Scranton Prep. They are run by the Jesuits (not the Scranton Diocese like the "regular" Catholic schools). They also charge about $11,000 per year and there's an entrance exam. But from what I hear, it's worth it if you have that kind of coin.

I was not aware of the cost of the private schools. Can parents get vouchers to help offset this cost? If so; how much are the vouchers worth? Our only child is in his forties and I really am not familiar with how it works today.

I have not heard anybody mention that Evergreen Community School that I had mentioned in post #4. I have passed by it many times and saw a few articles in our local paper. However; I don’t know any parents that have any kids at the school.
