The area has so much going for it...there is way more to do in Scranton than Sarasota, yet Florida cities, generally, have a better image and mindset. Go figure??

I'm thinking the beaches and the warmer climate make Florida more appealing to people than Scranton....And I would assume the economy is better in FL than in PA.

KOP which is a much, much bigger mall serving a much, much more populous area thrives, I would think the same would hold true for a mall of Steamtown's size in the area that it serves.

The Steamtown Mall is failing because there was really no need for it. The Viewmont Mall is only a few miles away in Dickson City and easier to access. It was good for a few years until the novelty wore off. Only in Scranton would the political leaders be so short sighted to put an enclosed mall in the downtown area with one a few miles away. I like Paul's idea of an open spaced marketplace instead of an enclosed shopping mall.

don't know if sarasota square is smaller---but it is 100%CLEANER INSIDE AND OUT
you would be amazed at the amount of dirt, spit(huge hockers),chewing gum in and around viewmont and wyoming valley mall-----will NEVER get used to that!~
