I live in a rural area of NEPA with no problems and lots of community support. There is great love ready for you wherever you find yourself.
LOL!! Very well said MM!! (I'm quietly chuckling at this very minute....)

As I said in my pre-dry-hump post, no matter where she moves, from Oshkosh to Manhattan, there'll be some idiots, so I would focus more on who would be my immediate "neighbors" as opposed to NEPA as a whole...

I thought that the folks we came in contact with were friendly down-to-earth people, from the kids on up to the older folks!!

There's at least a gay and lesbian culture in the city/suburbs. I suspect some in the rural population would go all Matthew Shephard on the gays if given the chance. There's a reason Twist isn't located somewhere far off in the country like The Grandview.

I didnt mean Dem. Rep. , I meant socially conservative...IE.. remember the uproar when the gentelmans club opened by the arena???

That is a completely untrue, ignorant, and vicious statement to make. There have been openly gay people in Pike and Wayne County for YEARS and have you *ever* heard of ANYTHING akin to Matthew Sheppard happening? Of COURSE you haven't.

Most of the violent crime in this area has to do with domestic disputes or are drug related.

Oh, yeah - a gay couple moving in is JUST LIKE a stripper club!

He wasn't saying that a gay couple moving in is the same as a strip club moving in, he was pointing out the local uproar over the strip club as proof of the area's socially conservative views.

Point taken. Though I think a lot of liberal people would be opposed to a strip club moving into their community as well.

Clariceim- Just to clarify, while I spoke to the culture of this area, this is in no way a reflection on how I personally feel. I welcome you to this area.

To answer your questions posted:

Would it be a safe move up this way? Sure it would be IMO. There are many people that frown on same sex relationships but there are just as many that don't care. Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding area has a decent sized LGBT community. Some members of the LGBT community are very open about their relationships and others hide it for their own reasons. FWIW, you will face discrimination regardless of where you move but the WB area is more on the accepting side then most.
