East Stroudsburg: Officially Now Having Nation's LONGEST Commutes
Well it looks as if NEPA's ongoing transition into a bedroom community of New York City has led to our very own East Stroudsburg in Monroe County to have the nation's longest average commute time in the nation of 40.6 minutes, longer than the national average of just 25.5 minutes (about what my commute currently is each way). Here in NoVA we also have one of the nation's longest average commutes of 33.2 minutes each way. According to to the article I just read over 30,000 people from the Greater East Stroudsburg area commute daily to NYC, and they are moving closer and closer to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area with each passing year. Still think a high-speed commuter rail isn't necessary?

They should move in the opposite direction...back from where they came from. Better yet, move north to NY state and stop polluting NEPA.

Yeah...God knows NEPA is pollouted (drunk) enough!  BTW...if people are moving from NYC or Long Island...to here...it is north!  |

I'm definitely one of those contributing to the long commute time for East Stroudsburg. I have about a 1.5 hour commute one way to Newark NJ, right outside of NYC.

And still the blame goes on...All the problems are from the people from N.J. and N.Y? .My husband and I
and our two sons, (daughter away in college) moved from N.J. to Pa. 17 years ago..Never had a problem
with "locals". or the schools or neighbors. Loved it, You can't keep "lumping" all the people that move
to Pa. from N.J. or N.Y. as criminals, drug dealers, low lifes...not nice....

Just sucks to see the area(s) deteriorating. when i started college and left in 2004, the area was still nice....now the news is just disheartening and depressing as to what the areas have turned into. I live in NJ now (unfortuntely), and when i come up to NEPA to visit, its almost like i'm still in NJ...it wasnt like that in 99-04....  |

No. Not all. But definetly alot. you also cant say that crime hasn't risen because of the influx of people from these areas and its the locals that are actually responsible for the crime rate rising. The reality of things is since the influx of people from those states, the area has deteriorated significantly. Not everyone is a low-life scumbag drug dealing criminal, but alot are. |

Which begs the question: Why have the communities failed to deal with it? Why has law enforcement kept its head in the sand so long until the problem got out of control?
You can lay part of the blame on the criminals that came here but more of the blame on the communities that have tolerated the criminal behavior for way too long....
