Take the Fairfax Connector line that is closest to you. It will bring you to the West Falls Church Metro station, and from there take the Orange Line into town. In rush hour figure 25 minutes for the Connector and another 25 from West Falls to downtown.

So 50 minutes from Reston to DC using connector and metro?
that sounds quite doable.
I read in another post to expect up to 70 to 80 minutes from Reston (South Lakes) to DC.
where exactly is south lakes in reston?
Im trying to nail down my expected commute from Reston just south of the toll road using a park and ride connector and metro into downtown DC.

I know this is not for everyone, but I would recommend bicycling some of the time, especially if you have access to showers and a safe spot for a bicycle.

Roundtrip in one day may be too much for you (though friends do it) but if you can keep your bicycle somewhere secure, you could alternate by riding in one day and riding home another.

To me, the benefits are a much more pleasant commute than on driving or metro at only slightly more time, no risk of traffic jams or metro breakdowns, and you get some exercise in.

Reston is about an 80 minute ride from the White House, but certainly less than 80 minuters at a quicker pace.

So, you say that you just dont want to drive into the city? Drive to Vienna Metro and take Orange line in.
Or do what someone previously mentioned and take the Fairfax connector to Vienna or Dunn Loring metro.

How do you get across Hunter Mill at rush hour? That's the one crossing on the W&OD that really scares me.
