Anyone taking extra precautions to prepare for Irene hitting this weekend? Only reason I ask is that my neighbor asked me to help him pickup a generator. I have a pickup and it won't fit in his beemer.

I've never been without power for more than 4 hours so I thought it was strange to need a generator all of a sudden. His rationale was that if it was a major hurricane that residential areas would be a lower priority to restore power.

I've got the regular supplies of food, water, candles, flashlights etc. Oh and don't forget toilet paper and milk

Oh and apparently we're already in a State of Emergency...

Last night Topper Shutt said that it would miss us and we would only end up with scattered showers on the weekend. He even said it would not be a washout, so we wrote it off. Has it changed again?

The only thing I heard was that the storm track did shift *slightly* to the west with projected landfall around Virginia Beach. It probably only means we might get a bit more rain than what the said yesterday.

I'm just predicting a rainy, somewhat windy day. Just steady rain. I will keep watching though.

For the PWC/Fairfax, they are calling for heavy rains and sustained winds of 20-40 mph with gusts of over 50 mph -- if Irene stays on track and doesn't move west again.
