Just joking...kinda
That would be awesome. However, for you Parks and Recreation fans, my first thought was Entertainment 720.

I cringed when I read the bolded. I cannot compare to Southern California, but I've found heat & humidity worse than NoVA's only in Cancun and Bangkok. Our summers are not dry or even just moderately humid, and temps will hit high 90s and into the 100s for a couple weeks in July or August, with low 90s for much of the remainder of the summer. High humidity persists well into September. We also have bad air quality days with health advisories. I'm sure those don't equal the smog of L.A. but please don't get the wrong impression about NoVA being comfortable in the summer.

As far as job market, when you say video and home entertainment, what exactly do you mean? Production, or equipment sales and installation? I don't know how much of a market there is for the former. For the latter, bear in mind that the average incomes are high in NoVA with the result that there is a market for setting up home theater/media rooms in family homes. Overall, the job market in NoVA is doing better than many if not most areas of the country now.

I've gotta agree with this. I grew up in so cal, and even after spending 6 years out here I'm still not used to the humidity. I comment to my husband that in the summer months I feel like I'm walking into a continue spray of PAM when I walk outside, and some days feels like breathing in a sauna.

We have friends in Atlanta (which is known for having grossly humid/hot summers) and yet when we did the research we found that DC has higher levels of humidity than Atlanta! Suppose that's what happens when you build in a swamp...

I think we'll be fine. The job is well paid & it looks like Lounden is a good place for work right now. We have an air-conditioned apartment in Ashburn lined up & I'm already planning trips to Snoeshoe for mountain biking in the summer, local mountains for snowboarding in the winter & OBX in NC to see the wild horses & eastern sea board. We also plan on checking out the DC area for museums/ attractions etc.

I hate humidity too, but having a swimming pool, gym membership, AC & access to Virginia Beach will be OK.

Thanks for the tips & advice guys.

If you like cycling, be sure to try the W&OD bike path. It runs right through Ashburn, and you can ride all the way from Mount Vernon to Purcellville. The section from Ashburn west to Purcellville is the prettiest stretch.

Oh it's not that bad. I exercised outdoors every day all summer long on the Mount Vernon Trail and lived to tell about it.

I do downhill mountain biking, but anything with 2 wheels works for me!

If you're into mountain biking, you'll like the bike trails at Fountainhead Park. Avoid riding along the trails that follow the river bank along the Potomac, however. They're ok for hiking but cyclists have done some serious erosion damage. They've posted no cycling signs, but sometimes people ignore that.

The cost of living has mystified people for at least a dozen years (as far as I've known), probably longer. NOVA's allure isn't so transparent as beaches or palm trees, but you'll be sure to discover the earthiness, the cultural opportunities, and the unique feel of NOVA after living here for awhile. There's really no other place like it. Good luck to you!
