Relocating to Fort Belvoir in July. What are your opinions of Marumsco Elementary School? We may rent a town home in Potomac Club. We like everything but not sure of that area of Woodbridge and the elementary school.

Thanks for your input.

This was about 10 years ago but we had a friend who was a substitute teacher there (just about daily) and she sent her 3 kids there and was very happy with the school. Those kids are now 21, 17, and 15. Marumsco Hills that surrounds the school is one of the older neighborhoods in the original part of Woodbridge. The neighborhoods surrounding the school have a predominantly Hispanic population and that weighs the demographics of the school. I don't know if there is anyway to check the ESOL program per school, but this, I know, has been an issue for some parents because they have felt that the classrooms had to "slow down" a bit when the ESOL percentages were high in one school. I knew one school (Bel Air) many years ago where that was an issue. Just not sure about Marumsco.

Thank you Christine, Yes, the ESOL is high. My kids will be first and third next school year. Both are strong readers. I wonder if slowing down means they would be behind at the next school they attend. Which would be two years....Finding a decent place to live with all that we require, and excepts pets, and close enough Belvoir, plus adding in a good school is making this process more challenging.

It's hard to say if they would be behind; however, I know this was concern of the parents I knew whose kids would have attended Bel Air and they opted for private school.

Would it be in your budget to use a private school for 2 years? The other thing that may happens is that they may put them in the early gifted program if the teachers feel that they need extra enrichment; however, that process takes some time so since you will only be there 2 years, it may not work for you. I do want to state that I don't know if Marumsco is good or bad but the woman I knew was very happy with it and all three of her children were very strong students and did fine when they came out of Marumsco.
