I noticed on google map that hwy 1 runs between Woodbridge and Fredericksburg. Is it a good route to take when I-95 is clogged with traffic? Or is the traffics on hwy 1 just as bad as I-95's? Thanks

If I-95 sucks, then Route 1 sucks. Only the scenery's much uglier.

While you may have fewer inexplicable slowdowns and stops, there's traffic lights to compensate.

Rt. 1 is often times worse than just waiting it out on the interstate. Lots of lights, lots of congestion. When you get I-95 bailoff it is horrendous. The only good news is that you can often find a McDonald's or Burger King handy to stop off and eat/use the restroom/etc. Your better bet is to investigate the dozens of secondary roads that wind in and out of the area. Lots of people do this but it can be very aggravating.

Agreed. And when it's really bad even those secondary, winding roads are jammed pack.

Yes. One of the most popular routes seems to be exiting off at Rt. 123, taking Old Bridge to Minnieville, Minnieville to 234 and 234 down to 95.

Old Bridge and Minnieville are horrendous when that happens.

There really isn't any way to get away from traffic....unless you have flexible hours. As Christine said, it's usually better to stay on 95.

Shhh....let that be our secret route. LOL

But seriously you can cut 5 minutes off that commute by just making a left at Spriggs Road while on Minnieville than riding it out. But other than that you are stuck. Unless you feel really froggy and decide to take Route 17 from Fredericksburg and you can eventually get up to Manassas (turn on route 28), but I think that might be too far out the way, but I'm sure some will try.

I assumed that's what the poster meant, just didn't fill in every turn detail. I don't know why anyone would actually take 2 long sides of that triangle when they could do 1 short one.

Yeah, I was just abbreviating. I actually don't go that far as I live off of Cardinal Dr. It's actually a horrible way to go because it gets pretty gridlocked through the Parkway to Dale Blvd area, but you can tell each and everytime something is going on at the interstate based on the bailout traffic taking that detour.
