Yeah. That was a good buy.
Still, according to the scientific survey, it's "west".

Midland. (If I only had a dollar for every time someone said to me, "You don't sound like you're from Texas"...)

Does any American pronounce "merry" and "marry" differently? Maybe Cary Grant did, but he was half limey.

86% Inland north. I'm still debating whether or not I should kill myself for sounding so southern...

I, do, actually, but it's a learned thing. I had a friend in high school (Carrie) who let me know her name is not actually pronounced like "carry". She said it's the same "Harry" and "hairy", as well as "Mary", "merry", and "marry".

I don't understand. Those are all pronounced the same. How'd else did she pronounce Carrie?

"Carry" is pronounced with an "air" sound in the middle. "Carrie" is pronounced with a higher "a" sound, like in "at" and "cat".

Harry also has that higher "a", as well as "marry".

(or maybe this is just how an East Coast/ Southern gal with a predominantly Western accent pronounces it all........)

They are supposed to be pronounced the same.

Lol

Honestly, I never hear accents in NOVA except from transplants.

Apparently I am 96% The West. Makes sense. Everyone understands me, even non native English speakers.
