Interesting, I don't think I've ever seen an ad for Sweetwater. That said, their salmon is absolutely delicious. Probably my favorite of any restaurant in the area. (and pretty much all of the GAR spots carry it too)

I have found I prefer Santini's pizza to Tony's in Fair Lakes. After actually going to NYC and having a slice there, it seems like the crust at Tony's is very tough.

Ford's Fish Shack is amazing, haven't been to the Aldie/South Riding location yet.

Dogfish Head is pretty good also but that place gets packed.

If you want greasy chinese, check out Golden China in the KMart shopping center. Historically, they've been ok but last time they had way too much fish sauce, although their dining room was packed with a bunch of drunk chinese guys so I think they rushed to make my meal since I arrived and they hadn't even started cooking it.

SuperPho on Centreville Rd near McLearan is pretty good too.

If you want greasy hole in the wall breakfast, there's a place called Yorkshire Restaurant on 28 as you head in to Manassas. Quick service and pretty decent breakfast. If you want something a bit healthier, try First Watch Cafe in Greenbrier shopping center. They are a breakfast & lunch place .

I've also heard good things about Alto Plaza at 28 & 29 in Centreville, but haven't been there yet.

I love Bonefish, I don't care if it's a chain. Likewise with Uncle Julios, especially if you have kids. That place is so loud, kid noise is always part of the deal. I tried Ozzie's at Fairfax Corner and wasn't impressed.

I live in Fairfax near Fair Oaks but work in Herndon so I'm all over the area when it comes to dining. I think sticking in Chantilly is going to be hard, so you need to branch out to the neighboring communities. Old town Herndon has some nice stuff as well.

Places we like in the area:

Asian food - 100 Degrees in the Harris Teeter Shopping Center just on the other side of the Fairfax County Parkway on 50. Similians in Greenbriar Shopping Center isn't bad either (more Thai food).

Pizza/Subs - my parents and family are big Ledos fans, which I have always found to be just OK. We like Tony's and Santini's - probably prefer Santini's, but it is a little farther and involves traffic on 50 in the evenings. We had a decent meal from Hot Stone Pizza the other night (in the Harris Teeter Center) - we just wanted delivery of something, and it turned out OK. I actually like First Watch in Greenbriar for a sandwich every now and then, but that is only for lunch.

Breakfast place - First Watch Cafe is pretty good - wish they were open in the evenings!

We enjoy most of the chains in the area - our favorite place is probably Coastal Flats, but we also enjoy Uncle Julio's/Rio Grande (have been to both the Fairfax and Reston locations), Sweetwater (prefer the Sterling location to the Centreville one), PF Chang's and even California Pizza Kitchen and Red Robin. We've even recently been to Olive Garden and liked it. My husband and daughter like Guapo's, but I don't.

We aren't incredibly picky - the only places we have really disliked enough to not go back are Cafe Rio (the food isn't horrible, but the service is so damn bad!) and the two chinese places in the Greenbriar center (one might have closed? - for the best, they were both awful).

Before I forget - Cupcakes Actually in Fairfax Corner is yummy. I prefer that to the froyo place for an after dinner treat.

Yes, 100 Degrees is very good. Cafe Rio is cheap and an acquired taste. Agree about service, their model doesn't lend itself for getting through quickly and I don't like the fake chants if you make the mistake of saying it's your first time or order nachos.

The one Chinese restaurant did close and in its place Similans, a Thai place has opened. Can't really speak to its quality, I've been there once and thought good but DH doesn't like Thai so I haven't had it much.

There is a Pizzarella getting ready to open in the Greenbriar shopping center, where Manhattan Bagel had been, but it seems like it's taking forever for it to be done.

I was just about to ask on the neighborhood Facebook page if anyone had any updates. It really IS taking forever! And, I miss the Bagel place They also had some decent lunch sandwiches.
